Welcome to Moab, Utah and an evening hike with my husband and kids along the Hells Revenge Jeep trail. It’s usually too hot and sunny in the summer for me to consider hiking in an unshaded area like this during the day. Luckily, there’s usually enough light and time to accomplish an evening hike which is also a great time to capture dramatic skies.

Painting isn’t easy. I stuggle with it constantly. I struggle with every aspect of it including sitting down and doing it in the first place. This painting was particularly difficult for me. The clouds just looked wrong no matter what I did and it felt impossible to replicate Moab’s red dirt. I probably wasted a quarter of a tube of paint trying to figure it out. I was ready to give up. However, I bought some nice new brushes and it was the motivation I needed to sit down and finish it.
