A friend of mine who bought a painting from my 31-day challenge in January knew she wanted another painting or two but couldn’t decide on which ones. Ultimately, she approached me and asked if I painted things other than food like glass. I told her I did, and she asked if I would be willing to paint her a still life of a tequila shot. I thought it sounded like a great idea, so I agreed.

She brought over a neat tequila bottle, salt, some shot glasses, and a margarita glass. She described what she had in mind while I did some quick compositions and we decided to go for the margarita painting too. Since she liked the first painting so much, we agreed that the other two should be the same size and style. This meant that I painted them right after I finished the 31-day challenge.

I’m thrilled with how the paintings came out and that I was able to create the vision of a friend. I really haven’t done very many commissions and never from life. I typically am commissioned to paint from a photo so this was a totally novel experience for me. I’m so happy that it went so well. 🙂
