6×6 oil on aluminum panel “Stuck in Cement”

What to say about this one… well for starters this is a lovely fake succulent that I can’t decide whether it looks more fake as a painting than it does in life. This is also the first painting I’ve done on the aluminum panels I primed. Working on the primed surface is comparable to working on regular panels, but I wish I would have smoothed out the gesso more before painting. Painting on ultra-smooth surfaces has grown on me.

I have one more panel that I primed, and I don’t think I’m going to prime any more. I think the special thing about painting on aluminum is definitely allowing for some of it to show through in the finished painting. Otherwise I might as well just paint on regular panels. *I know there is the warping factor with regular panels, but the risk is worth the cost savings.

I spent an enormous amount of time setting up the tripod for recording on this one. I need to put it on the opposite side though. Since I’m right-handed, I kept hitting it the tripod with my brush and struggled to get the upper right-hand corner. I think if I flip if around I hopefully won’t have that problem again.

I didn’t notice until editing that the first third or even two thirds of the video is out of focus and my hand is in the way quite a bit. Filming is hard. I think I’m slowly getting it figured out. And in the meantime, all of you get to suffer through these bad videos.
