Follow the White Rabbit

5×7 oil on panel “Cotton”

This painting was literally just the block in. I had every intension of painting over this when I was painting it, but couldn’t. I did so well with it that I just couldn’t bring myself to “finish” it. I absolutely love how rough it looks and that is was almost entirely done with larger hog hair bristle brushes and done very quickly.

When I started, I wasn’t too sure this painting was going to turn out. The photo I had was a bit dark and the white balance was off which made the bunny look more blue than white. For whatever reason I didn’t fix the photo before printing it out but I decided to paint it anyway. I was able to adjust my colors while painting and I didn’t end up with a blue bunny.

This little bunny was one of many little baby bunnies I had a couple of years ago when I was raising bunnies. I always loved the babies and a couple of the mama’s were really sweet, but keeping up with all of it was just more than I was interested in and I’m sadly allergic to bunnies so I had to give it up. One of these days though, I seriously want a house bunny… or more realistically, an outside bunny. They’re such interesting and goofy animals.

The husband signed off on having a small handful of chickens after the house situation is situated, which I’m a little excited about. The idea may not pan out very well though. I don’t really know how well the puppy Whiskey will do with chickens, him being a bird dog and all. My older dog was easy to persuade not to eat the other animals, but Whiskey is a bit more high-strung and a teensy bit obsessed with watching birds. We’ll see.
