I love Fisher Towers. It always makes me think I’m on an alien world. The rocks and dirt is super red, and the rock formations are very peculiar shaped. This time of the year, it’s even more dramatic because the plants are the bright green of spring and wild flowers are blooming everywhere. It’ really beautiful in a strange way.
The alien rock-scape makes for some really pretty photos. I wish we could have remembered to bring the drone and filmed some video. A couple of years ago my husband got to go on a helicopter ride for work and they flew right next to fisher towers and it was absolutely stunning from the air. I swear, I’d share the video if I could but I couldn’t get permission.
For the most part, the hike is a very easy one. I have yet to do it in the summer, but if it is as shady as it was on this day, I can’t imagine it being too bad. I was rushing through the shady areas to get back into the sun because I was getting cold. I’ve also hiked this in the winter and it was very cold. The wind is somehow funneled right next to the rock and the shady areas are icing on the cake… cold wise.
At one point there is a ladder you have to climb down to continue on the trail. Since we had Whiskey with us, my husband took him around and down the wash instead of trying to hoist him down the ladder. The people we met on the trail after this point were all very curious as to how we managed the ladder. On the way back, people even stopped to watch us get up the ladder with our huge dog. I think they were slightly disappointed when they saw us just go around. I’m sure the longer path was probably part of the original trail. I don’t really see why they added the ladder in the first place.
